MPs have backed our plan to hold a general election on 12 December – so we can elect a new Parliament, get Brexit done and let the country move on.

We didn't want an election, but this Parliament has forced another delay on Brexit which is really damaging the country.

We are worried that without an election, Parliament would waste 2020 on more delay, meaning we cannot focus on the NHS, the cost of living, tackling violent crime and creating more jobs. An election is the only way to move things forward because Parliament and Corbyn have blocked everything.

We want to get Brexit done

Our top priority is the same as it has always been. This remains, as it always has been, to get Brexit done.

We know this will be a tough election and we're taking nothing for granted. In the campaign, we will be making the case for the need for a functioning majority government that breaks the Brexit deadlock, andmoves past the confusion, indecision and arguments that have plagued the last three years.

We will take our positive vision to the country for what is possible for Britain once Brexit is done and we leave with our great new Brexit deal.

Labour's Brexit plans are just more dither and delay

All Corbyn and Labour have to offer at the coming election is more dither and pointless delay.

• Labour stood on a promise to deliver Brexit – but they have spent the last three years frustrating that process at every step.
• Labour were offered the chance to get Brexit done with our great new deal – but they voted for more dither and delay instead.
• Jeremy Corbyn doesn’t trust the British people – he wants to override their decision to leave the EU and tried his best to block an election. He even tried to give EU nationals a vote in the general election in another attempt to block Brexit. No other EU country allows this to happen.

If you vote for Jeremy Corbyn, the Liberal Democrats, the SNP or anyone else, then you will just get more of the same confusion, indecision and delay that we have had for the last three years - with the potential for most of 2020 spent having referendums on Brexit and Scotland.Only a vote Conservative can get Brexit over the line so we can get back to what matters most – delivering on the people’s priorities, from the NHS and the economy to policing and education.

A vote for anyone else just helps Corbyn sneak into No. 10

Voting for the Liberal Democrats or the Brexit Party will just deliver the same outcome: more confusion, more delay and more indecision.  

Neither party can form a majority. And that means a vote for the Lib Dems, the Brexit Party, or anyone else risks making Corbyn Prime Minister. That will just cause more confusion and chaos, more dither and delay– and no end to the Brexit deadlock.

Getting Brexit done to focus on the people's priorities

By getting Brexit done we can focus more on the people’s priorities like our NHS. We have announced that 78 hospital trusts that will receive state-of-the-art MRI, CT and mammography screening machines, so our brilliant NHS staff have the tools they need to quickly diagnose cancer and boost survival rates.

The Brexit deadlock has meant the NHS hasn’t had the attention it deserves over recent years. By getting Brexit done, we will be able to make a real difference to the lives of NHS staff and patients, giving everyone the peace of mind our health service will be there for our children and grandchildren in the future.

Getting Brexit done also means we can focus on keeping our streets safe and investing more into our policing. We have already pledged as part of our Conservative crime policy to invest more in 20,000 more police officers up and down the country. Every single police force in England and Wales will be able to recruit additional officers this year to help keep all of our communities safer, thanks to a Conservative government.

By getting Brexit done, we can do so much more. Only a Conservative government can move our country back on the road to a brighter future and deliver on the people’s priorities.
