The number of people in full-time jobs is at a record high; we’ve taken the unemployment rate down to its lowest since 1974; and we’re giving people the security of a decent wage. Labour would throw this away, taxing people by an extra £2,400 every year to fund their reckless spending splurge.
Thanks to a strong economy and the hard work of the British people, we head towards the end of 2019 with the unemployment rate lower than at any point in nearly half a century. Through sensible management of our economy, this Conservative Government has created 3.7 million jobs. We should not let Labour throw all that hard work away.
There are 24.2 million people with a full-time job – higher than any other point in history. And we’re making sure everyone in work is paid a decent wage. The proportion of low-paid jobs is at a record low and we’re increasing the National Living Wage to £10.50 by 2024 to take this progress further.
Only the Conservatives can deliver a strong economy. That’s why wages have grown ahead of prices of 20 months in a row. We’ve nearly halved youth unemployment and we’ve delivered a record number of jobs for disabled people and those from BAME backgrounds.
What will Jeremy Corbyn offer? Higher taxes and reckless plans for the economy – something we’ll all pay the price for.
Every Labour Government has left office with higher unemployment than when they came in. A Corbyn led Labour Government would see everyone paying an extra £2,400 a year in tax to fund their reckless spending plans, this is the equivalent of an entire month’s pay for the average worker.
Commenting, Therese Coffey, Secretary of State for the Department of Work and Pensions, said:
“Corbyn’s Pension Tax will see ten million savers facing a huge bill forcing them to delay their retirement for almost three and a half years.
“This is just one of the ways a Corbyn government would hammer hardworking people on top of his plans to hike up taxes by £2,400 a year, as well as the cost of his plan for unlimited immigration and the chaos of 2020 being dominated by two more referendums – one on Brexit and another on Scottish independence.
“Only Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party can get Brexit done with a deal, get parliament working again and turbocharge our economy to unleash Britain’s potential.”
