Ed Miliband falsely claiming to back Brexit to his leave voting constituents

On the day it emerged that Labour are relaunching their general election campaign strategy to focus on leave voting areas, it can be revealed that their former leader, Ed Miliband, is lying to his constituents by telling them he supports Brexit and has voted for a Brexit deal.

In Miliband's constituency, Doncaster North, 72% voted to leave the EU. But Miliband has repeatedly blocked Brexit by refusing to back a deal, voting to extend Article 50 and supporting a second EU referendum.

The “People’s Vote” Campaign says that voters in Doncaster North should support Ed Miliband as a candidate who supports a referendum to cancel Brexit.

But Miliband is telling his constituents that he has voted for a Brexit deal nine times.

Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay said:

"It’s clear what Labour’s new strategy is in leave voting constituencies: lie. People like Ed Miliband are destroying trust in democracy by saying they accept the result of democratic votes then working to overturn them.
"Corbyn’s Labour are taking voters for fools and now they are trying to pull the same confidence trick on the British people again.
"Only a vote for the Conservatives on 12th December will help get Brexit done so the country can move on and focus on people’s priorities like the NHS, schools, and recruiting 20,000 more police officers.
"A vote for Corbyn’s Labour is a vote for a gridlocked hung parliament, dither and delay, two more referendums and a £2,400 tax increase."

Commenting, Therese Coffey, Secretary of State for the Department of Work and Pensions, said:

“Corbyn’s Pension Tax will see ten million savers facing a huge bill forcing them to delay their retirement for almost three and a half years.
“This is just one of the ways a Corbyn government would hammer hardworking people on top of his plans to hike up taxes by £2,400 a year, as well as the cost of his plan for unlimited immigration and the chaos of 2020 being dominated by two more referendums – one on Brexit and another on Scottish independence.
“Only Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party can get Brexit done with a deal, get parliament working again and turbocharge our economy to unleash Britain’s potential.”
