New analysis has revealed that the cost of Christmas across Britain would increase substantially under Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour.

Christmas for families across Britain would be 33 per cent more expensive under Labour’s plans:

• The average Christmas meal would be nearly £20 more expensive
• Energy bills would rise by nearly £45
• Water bills would rise by over £17
• Fuel duty on car travel would increase by £9
• A windfall tax on oil companies would mean an extra £7.50 on petrol and £5.42 on heating in December.

John McDonnell, the Shadow Chancellor, has previously proposed a tax on imported food according to the number of air miles. With a typical Christmas lunch consisting of a range of ingredients from across the world – this will hit the pockets of British families.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Corbyn’s plans to renationalise Britain’s water and energy would cause households’ winter bills to spike over the Christmas period.

The festive season often provides families with the chance to visit friends and relatives across the nation, with the average family travelling 302 miles over the period. The Conservative Party introduced a freeze on fuel duty in 2010-11 to help families with the cost of living – measures which Corbyn and McDonnell voted against.

Labour have also recently proposed a windfall tax on oil companies, which will likely push up petrol and heating prices for ordinary families across the country.

Responding, Rishi Sunak, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said:

“Don’t wake up on Friday the 13th to the nightmare of a Corbyn/Sturgeon coalition.  Corbyn’s plans wouldn’t just make your Christmas expensive, it would cost you an extra £2,400 in taxes every year.

“The choice today is clear – vote for Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour who would take a sledgehammer to the economy and the chaos of another two referendums or Boris Johnson and the Conservatives who will get Brexit done so we can continue to build a strong economy and move our country forward.”
